About me

I am Shima Rastin, a freelance photographer based in Tehran, born in Arak, Iran, 1992. I hold an M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering.

My teenage years coincided with the zenith of the digital world, and I had the opportunity to work with different digital cameras and photography tools while working as the school photojournalist helped me to figure out my passion for documentary and street photography.

However, that desire for digital did not last long. Afterward, in the very first year of college, through the words of Benjamin on photography, I found a thirst to discover the analog photography world. Getting acquainted with Vivian Maier‘s works made it even more remarkable. Since then, I still couldn’t give up the pleasure of miracles happening in the whole process of analog photography, including the first moment of searching for the subject in the visor of my Rolleiflex to developing films or printing the frames.

Recently, in 2018, my works were nominated in the “Anxiety, Security, Dysphoria”  exhibition by Mod Gallery in Istanbul, Turkey. Later in March 2019, in “Face to Face Portraits,” presented by “ Bir Grup Insan,”  I had the experience of pair work. In a long-term project, I am focusing on two series called “Home, bitter home”, and “Widowed Land”.

I am currently working on some of my personal documentary projects and am available for assignments worldwide.
